Privacy Policy

Last updated: November 5, 2026

This website is run by MJ Sandbar Resources, LLC, which publishes under the BluffLight Books imprint. If you have a question about anything here, write to blake@blufflight.com and a person will answer you.

The short version

I collect an email address when you ask for a free story or join the reader list, and a name and shipping address when you order a signed book. I use Google Analytics to see how many people visit and which pages they read. I do not sell your information to anyone, and I never have. You can leave the list at any time, and you can ask me to delete what I hold.

The rest of this page is the detail behind that.

What I collect, and where it comes from

Where What
The reader list (/join, the free-story pages, the Brightwater notice) Your email address, sometimes your first and last name, and which stories you asked for
Signed copy requests (/signed-copies/) Your name, email address, shipping address, the title you want, and anything you write in the inscription or notes fields
Speaking requests (/speaking/) Your name, email address, organization, what kind of group it is, the location, possible dates, how many people, how long you want me to speak, and your notes
Book club requests (/book-club/) Your name, email address, organization, location, how many are attending, whether it is in person or online, the date, and your notes
Email you send me Whatever is in it
Automatically, on every visit Pages viewed, approximate location by region, browser and device type, and how you arrived. See Analytics below

I do not collect payment card details. When you order a signed copy, I reply with a Stripe payment link. You enter your card details with Stripe, not with me, and I never see them.

I do not ask for your date of birth, your phone number, or anything else I do not need.

Analytics and cookies

This site uses Google Analytics 4. It sets cookies in your browser named _ga and _ga_BRGDDGEHPQ that let it recognise a repeat visit, and it reports to me in aggregate: how many people came, roughly which region they came from, and what sort of device they used. I use it to find out whether anybody is reading, nothing more. I do not use it to build a profile of you, and I do not run advertising pixels of any kind.

Every page also loads a small performance script from Netlify, which hosts this site, and that measures how quickly pages load rather than who is reading them. Netlify's servers also keep a record of each request, as described below.

You can refuse the Google Analytics cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on, and the site will work exactly the same.

Some pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, which means Google receives your IP address when one of those pages loads.

Nothing else on this site tracks you. There are no advertising networks, no social media pixels, and no session recording.

Who else handles your information

I use a small number of outside services to run this. Each one holds only what it needs, and each has its own privacy policy.

Service What it does What it sees
Netlify Hosts the site, receives form submissions, and measures page speed Everything you type into a form, plus server logs of each request, including IP addresses
MailerLite Runs the reader list and sends the emails Your email address, name if given, which stories you chose, and whether you opened an email
BookFunnel Delivers the free stories Your name and email address
Stripe Takes payment for signed copies Your payment details, which go to Stripe directly and never to me
Google Analytics and fonts Usage data as described above

None of these are advertising companies buying your data. They are the plumbing, and I pay them to do a job.

How long I keep it

Reader list Until you unsubscribe or ask me to remove you
Signed copy orders Kept as long as Florida requires for sales tax records, then deleted
Email you send me Until it is no longer useful to keep
Analytics 14 months, which is Google's setting for this property

What you can do about it

You can, at any time:

You do not need to give a reason for any of these, and asking costs you nothing.

If you live in California

California gives you the right to know what personal information a business collects, to have it deleted, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for asking. I do not sell personal information and I do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of on that front. For anything else, use the email address above.

If you live in the EU or the UK

I ship books to the United States only, but the reader list is open to anyone, so this may apply to you. My basis for emailing you is your consent, which you gave when you signed up, and which you can withdraw with the unsubscribe link. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or export what I hold, and to complain to your data protection authority. MailerLite, which stores the list, operates under EU data protection law.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has signed up, write to me and I will remove the record.

Changes to this policy

If this changes, the date at the top changes with it. If it ever changes in a way that affects what I do with information I already hold, I will say so in an email to the list rather than quietly updating the page.
